Is the title "Landlord" out-dated and in need of a change?

This question is prompted by my attendance at the National Landlord Association meeting in London last night. One of the issues discussed was the "perception" of Landlords in the mainstream. We are often regarded as "money grabbing", "greedy", and "only interested in making money off others". Our reputation is poor but we are thought to be "wealthy" and "not business-like". Clearly this is a generalisation. There are Landlords who deserve a bad reputation, but the majority of us treat our tenants with respect and endeavour to provide a good service. I met tribe member Douglas Pointing last night and he posed the question about the term "landlord" and if it is still appropriate. According to Wiki-pedia: Landlording may be traced back to the Roman Empire and the manorial system (seignorialism), which began under it — peasants were bound to the land and dependent on their landlords for protection and justice. This is no longer the case, but the term "landlord" continues to imply wealth and elitism. Should we consider a better name for the service we provide and how can we improve our image with the general public?
